A Denver distiller teamed up with students on a second whiskey, all to support CSU. You can get a deal on it now!
An alert to the “Ramily”: A special collaboration between a Denver distillery and the CSU Fermentation Science department has borne more fruit. They teamed up on another tasty whiskey that’s all about giving back to the university.
Those familiar with CAM’s 1870 Single Malt Whiskey, the first collab between Ironton Distillery and CSU Ferm Sci students, will be glad to hear of CAM’s 1870 Rye. The latter just arrived on our shelves, ready to tailgate with you and boost your Ram pride. It’s another quality, easy-drinking whiskey from the team, and we’ve got it on discount. But that only begins to explain why it’s worth a try.
More than just a one-off collab
The ties between Ironton and CSU run deep. Elements of the partnership:
- CAM’s 1870 is the preferred whiskey of Colorado State Univ. That’s good for you, because it will soothe your throat when you’re screaming maniacally at Canvas Stadium and Moby Arena.
- Ironton runs a mentorship program with Ferm Sci students to use them as sales reps and brand ambassadors.
- Members of CSU Athletics, CSU alumni and the Ferm Sci program were “actively involved in tasting and selecting barrels, designing the label and launching the product.” That’s invaluable real-world experience for those lucky enough to be involved.
- Ironton donates a portion of the proceeds from every bottle sold to three CSU departments: Athletics, the Alumni Association and the Fermentation Science program.
Ironton has put its considerable skills behind this venture, helping CSU’s community and giving its CSU apprentices a leg up in a competitive industry.

OK, but tell us about the whiskey
The team named the CAM’s 1870 line in honor of CSU’s founding year, and CAM the Ram graces the label. They bottled both whiskeys at 87 proof. The distiller describes the rye as “approachable, inviting and balanced, with notes of chocolate, rye spice and Ram Pride.”
A must-have for CSU supporters and whiskey lovers
If you’re gearing up for the first tailgate, a CAM’s 1870 whiskey is a fantastic way to support the team and enjoy the work of CSU’s distillers-in-training.
